SMBDA and "Ernst & Young Azerbaijan" cooperate within “EY Entrepreneur of the Year” Competition 20.12.19

Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Ilgar Valiyev, the managing partner of EY Azerbaijan.

At the meeting, discussions were held on the arrangement of training, consulting, information, and other outreach services, and the support for participation in exhibitions and exchange programs to improve business skills of small and medium businesses, cooperation in areas such as expanding practical relationships between the public and private sectors, opportunities for the implementation of joint projects, as well as “EY Entrepreneur of the Year” Competition which is being held in Azerbaijan with the organization of EY Azerbaijan and partnership of SMBDA.

It was noted that a number of applications were submitted by small and medium businesses to participate in the competition, which had been announced in November this year. The reception of applications for the competition is open.

An agreement was signed on joint activities to be held in 2020 between SMBDA and EY Azerbaijan during the meeting. Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of SMBDA and Ilgar Valiyev, Managing Partner of EY Azerbaijan, signed the document.

Note that the EY “Entrepreneur of the Year” competition, which is held in more than 60 countries around the world, was organized for the first time in Azerbaijan this year. Small and medium businesses representing all sectors of the economy and operating in any region of the country are invited to submit their applications to participate in the competition until January 15, 2020.

The finalists for 2019-2020 and the ultimate winner of the competition shall be announced on 11 March 2020. The finalists and a winner will be selected by an independent panel of judges, comprising respected entrepreneurs, top-managers from state-run companies, and representatives of international financial institutions. The “EY Entrepreneur Of The Year” Azerbaijan program is supported by BP and the International Bank of Azerbaijan, and "Ekvita" provides technical support.
