KOBIA took part in a series of events and held several meetings in Geneva.
Representatives of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBIA) visited Geneva, Switzerland. With the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Swiss Confederation and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, KOBIA delivered presentations to the Switzerland-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) and the Joint Chamber of Commerce Switzerland–Eastern Europe, Central Asia, South Caucasus (JCC) on the “Joint Declaration on the Baku Climate Coalition for the Green Transition of SMEs.”
During the presentations, Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of KOBIA’s Management Board, provided information on the declaration advanced by the Agency within the framework of COP29 held in Baku in 2024, which aims to establish a global movement for the green transformation of SMEs. In KOBIA’s presentation on the objectives and goals of the “Joint Declaration on the Baku Climate Coalition for the Green Transition of SMEs,” it was emphasized that the declaration envisages a number of measures to facilitate SMEs’ transition to green practices and to eliminate the challenges they face in this field in the countries that have joined the initiative. To date, more than 20 international organizations and national institutions of foreign countries have acceded to this declaration. A video clip showcasing the work carried out within the framework of the Baku Climate Coalition was also presented.
SACCI, JCC, and the Swiss Alternative Financing AG (SAFAG) declared their support for the Baku Climate Coalition and signed memoranda of understanding on joining the declaration. These documents provide for support to SMEs in their green transition and envisage the organization of relevant activities, economic cooperation, trade, investment opportunities, exchange of information on green initiatives, and the promotion of collaboration.
During the visit, the KOBIA delegation also held meetings with Dmitry Mariyas, Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE); Dorothy Tembo, Deputy Executive Director of the International Trade Centre (ITC); and Arlette Verploegh, Head of the Entrepreneurship Section at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The meetings included exchanges of views on the development of economic and trade relations with the participation of business actors, the expansion of cooperation among business circles, as well as the advancement of SMEs and their green transition.
