Entrepreneurs from Azerbaijan and Turkiye convened in Nakhchivan to discuss opportunities for cross-border trade, investment, and business cooperation.
The 2nd Azerbaijan Turkiye Regional Economic Forum was held in the city of Nakhchivan with the participation of government officials and business leaders. Before the opening ceremony, attendees visited the monument erected to the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the center of Nakhchivan, laid flowers, and honored his memory with deep respect.
Organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA), and supported by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of Azerbaijan (ASK), the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkiye (TOBB), the Kars Chamber of Commerce and Industry, “Cahan Holding,” and “Marsol Group,” the forum brought together representatives of relevant institutions of both countries, delegates from the governorships, municipalities, and chambers of commerce of regions such as Kars, Ighdir, Ardahan, and Erzurum, as well as more than 200 businesspeople.
The purpose of the Forum was to advance business relations between Azerbaijan and Turkiye particularly between their regions to highlight existing potential and opportunities for business cooperation, and to inform Turkish entrepreneurs about the business and investment landscape of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, while also promoting the expansion of bilateral economic and trade ties with Turkiye’s border provinces.
The event commenced with the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Turkiye and a tribute to the cherished memory of Great Leaders Heydar Aliyev and Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, as well as to the martyrs.
The President’s Authorized Representative in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Jeyhun Jalilov, Turkiye’s Consul General in Nakhchivan, Asip Kaya, Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Kars, Zamin Aliyev, Minister of Economy of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Kazim Huseynaliyev, Chairman of KOBİA, Orkhan Mammadov, and ASK Vice President and Co-Chair of the Azerbaijan Turkiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vugar Abbasov, emphasized in their remarks the development of political-economic relations and strategic partnership between the two nations, cooperation opportunities among business communities, and the potential for investment. Speakers underscored that joint initiatives in logistics, cross-border trade, investment, and SME support contribute to strengthening economic dynamism in the region and unlock new partnership prospects. They also highlighted that Nakhchivan’s position as a regional cooperation hub offers substantial opportunities for business circles. It was noted that there is significant potential for collaboration in trade particularly cross-border trade industry, tourism, transport and logistics, agriculture, and other sectors; and that effective utilization of these opportunities by businesses would make a meaningful contribution to the development of economic relations between the two countries.
The Governor of Kars, Ziya Polat, the Governor of Ighdir, Erjan Turan, the Governor of Ardahan, Hayrettin Chichek, Member of TOBB’s Board of Directors and Chair of the Erzurum Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Saim Ozakalin, Chair of the Kars Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kadir Bozan; and Mayor of Kars, Otuken Senger, stressed the importance of economic cooperation in the region and the business opportunities arising from cross-border interaction. They noted that the provinces they represent possess broad potential for cooperation with Azerbaijan especially Nakhchivan and that joint initiatives would support sustainable economic development across the region.
Within the framework of the Forum, a presentation was delivered on Nakhchivan’s investment, trade, and logistics potential, and “B2B” meetings were held between Azerbaijani and Turkish entrepreneurs. Turkish business delegations also visited several enterprises operating in Nakhchivan as part of their trip.
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan Turkiye Regional Economic Forum platform was established to promote and further develop cross-border trade, investment, and business cooperation between the entrepreneurs of the two countries. The inaugural forum was held in June 2025 in the Turkish city of Kars.
The President’s Authorized Representative in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Jeyhun Jalilov, also met with the Azerbaijani and Turkish delegations visiting Nakhchivan, including governors, municipal leaders, and representatives of chambers of commerce from regions such as Kars, Ighdir, Ardahan, and Erzurum. The meeting addressed cooperation between the regions of Azerbaijan and Turkiye and the development of cross-border trade.
