The second Azerbaijan Halal Business Forum (AZHAB) is being held in Baku under the theme "Halal Industry as a Source of Sustainability in a Rapidly Developing World." Officials, representatives of international organizations, academics, businesspeople, and experts from more than 30 countries are participating in the forum.
The goal of the forum is to establish new partnerships in investment and trade, exchange ideas and experiences, and attract foreign investment to Azerbaijan and the region.
The forum is supported by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and organized by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDA), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Statistical, Economic, Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), the Standards and Metrology Institute of Islamic Countries (SMIIC), a partnership between the Islamic Chamber of Commerce Halal Services and Caspian Event Organizers LLC, and with the sponsorship of "ATENA" LLC and "Bilge Group".
The event began with recitations from the Holy Quran.
The forum was attended by Goshgar Tahmazli, Chairman of the Food Security Agency of Azerbaijan; Elnur Aliyev, First Deputy Minister of Economy; Ahmed Kawesa Sengendo, Deputy Secretary General for Economic Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation; Zehra Zumrut Selçuk, Director General of the Statistical, Economic, and Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRIC); Samer Elesawi, Head of the Islamic Development Bank's Center of Excellence in Malaysia; Taha Ayhan, President of the Youth Forum of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation; and Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SMEs. They shared their views on cooperation in trade and investment, opportunities to enter international markets, the potential and emerging trends of the halal industry, the role of innovation and technology in this area, and the certification of halal products and services.
Memoranda of understanding were signed between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the Turkish technology zone "IT Valley" to support SMEs' transition to a green model, as well as cooperation with the Malaysian Halal Development Corporation "Berhad."
The exhibition, held as part of the forum, features products and services from approximately 30 companies from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, and other countries. The exhibition features food products, perfumes, cosmetics, textiles, accessories, and more. The exhibition also features stands from the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute, SMEs, the Azerbaijan Chefs' Association, the Azerbaijan Food and Beverage Manufacturers Association, and the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce. The exhibition runs until October 8.
The forum will continue with panel discussions.
