Public Discussion Held on the Topic of “Existing Challenges in Milk and Meat Production and the Assessment of Their Impact on Food Safety”

A public discussion titled “Existing Challenges in Milk and Meat Production and the Assessment of Their Impact on Food Safety” was held with the organization of the Public Council under the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBIA) and with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture. The event, hosted at the Baku SME House, brought together representatives of the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy, the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency, the State Customs Committee, other relevant government bodies, business associations, as well as approximately 80 entrepreneurs operating in the relevant sectors.

Chairman of the Public Council under KOBIA, Emin Dostiyari, stated that the purpose of the event was to discuss the current situation in the milk and meat production sector, to hear the opinions and proposals of entrepreneurs operating in this field, and to conduct a mutual exchange of views on issues related to food safety.

In his address, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov noted that the state applies systematic support mechanisms aimed at stimulating the development of the livestock sector. He emphasized that between 2021 and 2025, preferential support totaling AZN 89.8 million was provided for the purchase of 25,615 head of cattle and more than 8,000 small ruminant breeding animals, while over AZN 128 million in low-interest concessional loans was allocated to more than 10,000 agricultural entities. Vaccination measures against particularly dangerous animal diseases are fully financed from the state budget. The Minister also underlined that the liberated territories possess significant potential for the development of livestock farming, and that targeted policy measures aimed at organizing and developing the sector in these areas are being implemented in a consistent and systematic manner.

Chairman of the Board of KOBIA, Orkhan Mammadov, highlighted the strategic importance of milk and meat production in terms of food safety and emphasized the need for a systematic approach to addressing existing challenges in this sector. He noted that factors such as the feed base, veterinary control, organization of production and supply chains, compliance with standards, and awareness-raising activities are closely interrelated. It was also emphasized that ensuring the sustainability of micro and small enterprises operating in the milk and meat sector is crucial for regional socio-economic development and employment growth.

Within the framework of the event, the Ministry of Agriculture delivered a presentation on state policy and strategic targets for the development of the livestock sector, while entrepreneurs’ proposals were heard and their questions were addressed.
