A positive growth trend continues to be observed in Azerbaijan’s micro, small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector. This growth is reflected in the increasing number of SMEs, their share in employment and value added, as well as in the overall number of employees engaged in the sector.
According to data from the State Statistics committee, the number of SMEs in 2024 reached 424437, representing a 5.8% increase compared to the previous year. Compared to 2023, the volume of value added generated by SMEs rose by 3.4%, amounting to AZN 21.1 billion. While the number of employees working in SME entities stood at 390,800 in 2023, this figure increased to 417,800 in the previous year, marking a 6.9% growth. Against this backdrop, the share of SMEs in total employment increased to 45.3%.
Overall, in recent years a steady increase has been observed in the role of SMEs within the national economy and employment structure. This trend demonstrates the growing contribution of SMEs to sustainable economic development and highlights the effectiveness of state support measures aimed at fostering SME activity.
