Azerbaijan has great potential in the field of agro-tourism

A seminar on rural development and the establishment of a national agro-tourism system in Azerbaijan was held on February 17 as part of the EU-funded twinning project "Increasing the capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of state aid to agriculture."

Speakers at the event, which was attended by representatives of relevant government agencies and the EU Embassy in Azerbaijan, spoke about the work done within the twinning project on agro-tourism and rural development, European experience, development potential of agro-tourism in Azerbaijan, policies and state support measures.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Board of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) Orkhan Mammadov noted that agritourism has great potential in our country. The great return to Karabakh, the implementation of "smart village" projects and the concept of "smart agriculture" will give additional impetus to the development of this sector. Special attention is paid to the development of all sectors of the tourism sector in Azerbaijan, and this sector has been identified as one of the priority areas in terms of accelerating economic growth in the post pandemic period. SMBDA also takes measures to develop micro, small and medium enterprises in the field of tourism and increase their potential. Thus, businesses intending to explore new market opportunities within the sector can benefit from the domestic market research provided by SMBDA, and those interested in applying innovative approaches in the agricultural sector to attract more tourists can benefit from the grant program to finance education, science, research and support projects. Entrepreneurs wishing to work in the agro-tourism sector can use the training, consulting and other services of SME development centers, e-learning platform, as well as other support and services of the Agency to increase their knowledge and skills.
