An 'EcoEnergy' Station has been established at Baku State University through a grant allocated by KOBIA

The “EcoEnergy” station, using by solar and wind energy, provides access to clean, eco-friendly electricity for charging electric vehicles.

Located on the premises of Baku State University (BSU), the “EcoEnergy” station has been inaugurated through a joint partnership between BSU and the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBIA). This station enables the charging of electric vehicles using renewable energy sources.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, BSU Rector Elchin Babayev emphasized that the issues of “green energy” and the “green economy” hold special significance at the state level in Azerbaijan. He noted that BSU contributes to these national priorities through a forward-thinking approach. This project, which utilizes both solar and wind energy, offers BSU faculty members and students access to clean, sustainable energy. The rector further highlighted that the project, titled “Clean-Charge AC Power Charging Station,” was the winning initiative in the 5th KOBIA grant competition aimed at supporting educational, scientific, research, and assistance projects by SMEs. The establishment of this station represents not only a successful model of collaboration between BSU and KOBIA in the fields of science, education, and innovation, but also a concrete step by the university toward fulfilling the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The station will operate using green energy and will also be integrated into the academic process as a teaching tool.

Chairman of KOBIA’s Board, Orkhan Mammadov, underscored that supporting innovation-driven projects is a priority for the agency. He noted that the memorandum of cooperation signed between KOBIA and BSU is being implemented successfully. The chairman emphasized that KOBIA allocated a grant of approximately 20,000 AZN for the development of the “Clean-Charge” AC power station and stated that the project would be beneficial for university staff, students, and entrepreneurs alike.

Turkhan Suleyman, Head of the Department for Science and Higher Education Policy at the Ministry of Science and Education, underlined the importance of implementing such projects in the context of modern university development. He stressed the significance of having not only state, but also private-sector funding mechanisms within the higher education landscape. The Ministry, he said, intends to further enhance its support for socially beneficial projects in science and education. He also pointed out the importance of integrating the new project into the academic curriculum.

The project manager, Ilyas Nasibov, Director of BSU’s Student Center for Scientific and Technical Creativity, stated that the project’s primary aim is to reduce carbon emissions by sourcing electricity from renewable energy:

“The total capacity of the station is 22 kWh. Our goal is to protect the environment and uphold the Sustainable Development Goals by ensuring the rapid and environmentally friendly charging of electric vehicles with zero carbon emissions.”

Following the speeches, attendees were given a live demonstration of the electric vehicle charging process at the “EcoEnergy” station.
