The purpose is to inform embassies about the Baku Climate Coalition, initiated by KOBIA within the framework of COP29 and aimed at promoting the green transition of SMEs, as well as to encourage more countries to join the declaration.
Within the framework of Azerbaijan’s presidency of COP29, awareness-raising activities continue to promote the “Joint Declaration on the Baku Climate Coalition for the Green Transition of SMEs,” initiated by the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBIA) with the aim of launching a global movement for the green transition of SMEs and encouraging more countries to join this initiative.
A presentation on the Baku Climate Coalition was held at the “Baku SME House” for representatives of the foreign diplomatic corps operating in our country, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and organized by KOBIA. The event, titled “Baku Climate Coalition for SMEs: From Green Idea to Action,” was attended by ambassadors and diplomatic staff from nearly 60 countries represented in Azerbaijan.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev shared his views on the importance of international cooperation in combating climate change, the initiatives put forward within the framework of Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency Action Agenda in 2024, and the historic outcomes of this event. He expressed confidence that more countries and the institutions responsible for SMEs would support the Baku Climate Coalition.
Chairman of the Board of KOBIA, Orkhan Mammadov, informed the event participants about the outcomes achieved in relation to the declaration that, for the first time, proposes the creation of a global climate movement for SMEs, as well as about the local and international activities carried out by KOBIA to promote this document. It was noted that 20 international organizations and national institutions of foreign countries have already joined the declaration.
Elnur Aliyev, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of KOBIA, made a presentation on the goals and objectives of the “Joint Declaration on the Baku Climate Coalition for the Green Transition of SMEs,” as well as the actions outlined in the declaration. Soft solutions are defined as training, seminars, exchange of best practices, etc. in order to increase the knowledge and skills of SME entities in this area. Institutionally, it is envisaged to establish Green SME Resource Centers in the countries joining the declaration. Thus, the role of the aforementioned centers, which can be established in each country, will consist of collecting and analyzing information on the problems faced by SMEs at the national level and determining specific steps taking into account global experience, as well as providing technical, expert and other support.
Then, questions from employees of the foreign diplomatic corps regarding the relevant document were answered.
The event participants also visited the "Baku SME House" to get a first-hand look at the SME House model, which provides entrepreneurs with "G2B" and "B2B" services in a single space and was evaluated as a leading innovative practice by the Research Center for Innovation in the Public Sector of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in 2024.
